Creating a Project in Annotate is a good place to start using Active. From Annotate you can configure the Dataset, Ontology, and workflow for your Project. Once that is done, move to Active to provide a streamlined dataset for your annotators.
Active supports analysis (Advanced Metrics and Embeddings) on images and videos up to 4K resolution. Performance is affected for images and videos over 4K.For optimal performance, we strongly recommend downscaling images and videos over 4K to 4K resolution.

Data Import Behavior

Active imports data units and labels from Annotate Projects by default. The import performs no computation on the data units or the labels. This allows you to start working with your data and labels as quickly as possible without delay.
Upload Predictions after your Annotate Project import completes.
You can select other options for the import:
ImportDescription
Video samplingSpecifies the sample rate to import video frames into Active. ALL imports all video frames into Active. The default is 1 FPS.
Any frames that have labels import into Active, regardless of the value specified for Video sampling.
Similarity & Natural language search and quality metricsCalculations to unlock filtering and sorting by all quality metrics, and Overview shortcuts.
You must specify embeddings from Select embeddings.
Select embeddingsCalculations to unlock Embeddings and similarity search.
Embeddings plot, Diversity and Uniqueness metricsComputes UMAP reduction to generate 2D embeddings plots to visualize your data. Also accesses diversity and uniqueness metrics for curation.
You must specify embeddings from Select embeddings.

Import an Annotate Project

To import an Annotate Project:
  1. Log in to the Encord platform. The landing page for the Encord platform appears.
  2. Create a Project (Annotation Project or Training Project) in Encord Annotate.
  3. Click Active from the main menu. The landing page for Active appears.
  4. Click the Import Annotate Project button. The Import Project dialog appears.
  5. Click the Select button for the Annotate project you want to import. The Import an Annotate Project modal appears.
  6. Specify the Sample rate (in FPS) for the import of videos.
Toggle the FPS switch to ALL to import all frames from your videos. The default value is 1 FPS. All frames with labels import to Active, regardless of the FPS value.
  7. The following are optional settings for Project import:
    • Similarity & Natural language search and quality metrics: Enable to compute embeddings and quality metrics for similarity search and natural language search.
    • Select embeddings: Specify the embeddings for computation. Default embeddings are computed by Encord. You can also select a custom embedding.
    • Embeddings plot, Diversity and Uniqueness metrics: Enable to compute UMAP reduction to generate 2D embeddings plots to visualize your data. Also access diversity and uniqueness metrics for curation.
  8. Click Start import to select the import stage for the Project.
  9. Click the Project to monitor the status of the import. The landing page for the Project appears with the Explorer tab selected and displaying the stage of the import.
Once the import completes, and depending on the option features you selected, you are ready to filter, sort, and search data/labels, create collections and optimize your model performance.
